theUNFORGIVEN::; >> her steps were slow, rising and falling with her silent breaths. the fastest pace she traveled thus far was at a walk, long and low with her nostrils almost touching the dirt ground. she had been following the herd for days now, undetected, and she half wanted to keep it that way. a sudden burst of paranoia caused her to look behind her for a mere moment before returning her stalking gaze upon the harem. she could tell, even from the distance she stood, that the elders and the young were located toward the middle, the nurse mares and the herd mares were next, and the stallion guarded them by walking 'round in circles. the inexperienced young mare chuckled to herself as she watched him. his scent wafted toward her, following the winds. while he was delightful, she dare not approach a stag with such prowess. young, yes she was, though not exactly stupid in some cases.
remaining in her spot, the mare watched the harem still. she concentrated on the mares, how they acted and reacted toward one another. at one point, a fight broke out between a black colored mare and a bright bay. her eyes were transfixed on them as they reared and struck at one another. each mare clearly stated her position, conveying it to the other with force. unlike stallion battles, there was not much brutality, which caused her to sigh. calm violence was a bore to watch. the mare took the time to lay her body upon the dusty ground beneath her, and could not restrict her desire to roll at least once, covering her dark bodice in the dust of the earth. clumps of the earth stuck in her mane, while others fell with feather-like strokes to the ground once more. her left fore was stretched out, neck craned to continue watching the harem. the stallion was near the two mares now, breaking up their fight. she considered him to be stupid, the most unintelligent stallion she had ever seen. however, she got a good laugh when one of the mares reached out a hoof to the stallion's eye, striking him with a force so strong he stumbled backward.
but, within a few short moments, she found boredom capturing her, and sleepiness following shortly after. thus, she lay on her side, stretching her neck out, and released a sigh. some of her forelock fell over her right eye, while the rest tumbled to the ground. it was still cold, but her body began to warm it. it felt as if her warmth was rapidly traveling to the earth without her consent. her body began to feel cold and she shuddered.

It has been days since he had seen another horse, his steps were starting to become more lazy and his overall energy level was lowering rapidly. After leaving the last group that he visited for a time, all he wanted to do was to finally settle in a new home and maybe find a mare so he at least had a purpose in life...not being around other horses for a long time always made him depressed. All he had that kept him walking forward and not going back to his old herd was the trail that he kept following on the ground...it was getting fresher and fresher every day so he had to be catching up. He sniffed deeply and slowly on the ground, he could easily tell that he was not far off at all, the smell was so fresh and the tracks were easily seen in the drying mud on the surface. After a while of more walking and thinking he decided to look up onto the horizon for any sign of mudhole or grass...and on the top of a hill he saw what looked to be a black shadow moving slightly...he supressed a whinny and started to walk with a little more energy until he became within hearing distance...he stopped abruptly and walked behind a bush, the shadow looked behind itself for a second and then stared back ahead. He carefully walked closer trying to not let off any scent that would make him noticeable to it...he examined a little more finally getting its scent and what it looked like...she was a dark brown mare with what looked to be a black mane with blondish-brown streaks that sparkled a little in the light, he became extremely happy....it was a mare, not a stallion! That solved most of his fears of confrontation...though she did seem to look pretty powerful for a mare. After being completely awed by the sight of another horse he finally looked to where she seemed to be concentrating, and finally found the herd he was following, the same one she evidently was following too. He did not know how to confront her so he just watched the herd below as she did...trying not to think of the confrontation that was inevitable. When she laid down and stretched her neck out sighing he almost couldnt believe the site..if he waited long enough he could just past right by her and go down to the herd...wait...this was a mare...pass up a mare...! He decided to see how the confrontation would go, what is the worst that could happen. He watched her forelock fall across her face, and when she shuddered he finally realized how cold it really was, trying to concentrate on the problem he analyzed the situation... he snorted quietly in indecision, shes asleep probably now so if i went over to her and woke her she would probably attack me, or run away...but if i waited she would definetely smell me by the time she wakes up and i would be noticed then. Wishing he didn't think so much he walked out into the open and put his head only inches away from her and sniffed quietly...this will be fun...he thought to himself.

pokerFACE::; >>She blinked but once. If only it were not so frigid outside...she would have been able to take a small nap moments ago. Of course, she could not tell if she loitered for seconds, minutes, or even hours. Time was an illusion to her. She now pondered what she would do when she had retrieved the energy to rise. She could watch this boring harem once more, or she could find another, more interesting one. Then again, she knew, no matter which herd she followed she would always be behind them, watching from the shadows, wishing to be inside but only running into glass. That is, an invisible glass wall separating her from a family, a home, a herd. She snorted, stirring up the loose dust that had scattered about from when she lay. Some traveled towards her eyes, which watered to keep it out.
Her ear flicked, just listening to the birds, the wind, the natural sounds around her, and she was taken back to a time where she was young and carefree. Although she put on a touch facade, growing up lonely for the most part had it's own setbacks. She had the basic need: she needed to be wanted, to be needed by another or a group, and that had been destroyed by her nameless persona. Ah, she shrugged off the thought for now. It would return later, she was certain of that.
The sound of light hoof beats roused her from her slumber-like state. She remained in her position as the other approached, still as she could be, her rib cage moving in time to her breaths, showing that she was among the living. The young mare did not need to look to tell when the other equine creature had reached her. She could sense it, his warmth and overall presence. It was about this time she decided to raise up a bit. She lifted her head and neck, and changed her position so that she lay on her underbelly. Her ear flicked again, and she stared at the brown bay before her with a poker face. >>"" Well, hello there. What can I do for you today?"" Her usual flirtatious and sarcastic sides were showing their faces now. At least conversation was better than being completely bored. Her eyes traveled to the herd for a moment, watching the mares graze again, the mares who fought on opposite sides of the harem at this point. She laughed inside. Darks punished? Now that is something new...
